Natalie Portman Doesn't Display Oscar Statue Because It Is A 'False Idol'
Guests in Natalie Portman’s Paris home should not expect to see her Oscar statue perched atop the mantle.
âI donât know where it is,â Portman told The Hollywood Reporter when asked about where she keeps the Best Actress Oscar she won in 2010 for her role in “Black Swan.” âI think itâs in the safe or something. I donât know. I havenât seen it in a while. I mean, [‘Black Swan’ director] Darren [Aronofsky] actually said to me something when we were in that whole thing that resonated so deeply. I was reading the story of Abraham to my child and talking about, like, not worshipping false idols. And this is literally like gold men. This is literally worshipping gold idols â if you worship it. Thatâs why itâs not displayed on the wall. Itâs a false idol.â
The actress is Jewish and ABC News reported that her husband, French ballet dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied, was reportedly in the process of converting to Judaism last year. In the latest issue of THR magazine, Portman discussed her marriage.
âThe disappointments are always in myself, and like, when youâre faced day to day with someone looking at you, itâs like a mirror that you have to yourself, and you can see your own good behavior and bad behavior,” she said. “And itâs a beautiful challenge to be the best person in the mirror that you can be. I mean, I donât beat myself up over it, but Iâm not always as generous as I feel like I could be.â
