Ideas To Enhance Your Career Prospects That You’ve Never Thought Of
The thing about career progression is that people choose all kinds of different paths to achieve their goals. Some will rely on experience alone while others prefer to study for a university degree or two.
These days, employers have their pick of the bunch when it comes to hiring new staff members. So, how should you enhance your career prospects? For today, weâd like to offer you a few practical tips to help you get started. They are as follows:
Volunteering
It might surprise you to learn that volunteering is a common way of boosting your career prospects! Letâs say that you want to become a social worker. You could volunteer with a local charity that helps people in need. That way, you can better understand what life is like for the disadvantaged.
Sure, youâll learn a great deal by taking various college courses and studying for university degrees. But one sure-fire way of increasing your job prospects is to dedicate your time for free to a worthy cause.
Employers look favorably on those that devote their time to a charity by doing some volunteer work. It shows that they are willing to put the hours in, even if they arenât getting paid for it.
Get closer to God
Is religion a big part of your lifestyle? If so, you might be thinking about a career that involves your faith. Perhaps youâd like to be a priest or even run your local choir group? One of the ways that you can âget closer to Godâ is to learn more about the Bible.
One way is to spend your time reading your copy of the âgood book.â But if youâre serious about forging a career in religion, itâs worth signing up to a free Bible college, for example. That way, your resume will show that youâve learned more about the Bible in an official capacity.
Do Some Work Experience
In some ways, doing some work experience is a lot like volunteering. You do a set amount of work for free. But the main difference is youâre offering your services for free to a commercial entity rather than a charity.
If you want to work for a large blue-chip company like Microsoft, for instance, you could get a âjobâ as an unpaid intern. For the most part, work experience placements are arranged for young people via their schools and colleges.
Of course, that doesnât mean anyone canât do the same thing. And itâs possible to ask about work experience placements directly.
Donât Become a Job Hopper
The term âjob hoppingâ refers to the practice of frequently changing jobs. Usually, job hoppers donât stick with a job for more than a few months (or even weeks). If youâve worked for plenty of companies in the past but only for short spells, itâll ring alarm bells for future employers.
When you apply for jobs, make sure you accept roles in companies you feel youâll fit in with. And stay there for at least two or three years.
